Welcome to The Little Art Den

The Little Art Den is a welcoming creative studio in Kirkcudbright offering process-based art and craft sessions for children and adults. It’s a place to learn skills, explore materials, and enjoy the act of making without pressure to be perfect or produce identical results.

Across the week, I run a mix of adult classes, children’s after-school clubs, and special workshops — some drop-in, some short courses — all designed to feel accessible, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable. Sometimes we’re painting or drawing, sometimes sewing, printing, sculpting or stitching, but always with an emphasis on curiosity, confidence and the creative process rather than a polished end product.

What happens here isn’t about following trends or copying a set outcome. It’s about protecting people’s intrinsic creativity — giving them the time, space and guidance to make something that feels like their own.

A bit about me...

I’m Carly, the founder of The Little Art Den. Before opening the studio, I spent over a decade working in education, teaching science and creative subjects, and supporting children and young people with a wide range of needs. Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to the power of creative work — not as something performative, but as something grounding, confidence-building and quietly transformative.

The Little Art Den grew out of that belief: that creativity should be accessible, human, and rooted in real life. That adults deserve space to make without judgement, and that children thrive when they’re trusted to explore ideas at their own pace.

I run the studio with care, realism and a lot of heart — balancing ambition with gentleness, structure with flexibility, and always keeping the wellbeing of the people who walk through the door at the centre of what I do.
